About This Destination

A coastal park in Yura built around white limestone cliffs formed from ancient marine rock, with a roadside station, campground, viewpoint and diving spots.
Shirasaki Ocean Park sits on a peninsula along the Kii coast in Yura. Its cliffs are made of white limestone that formed from marine deposits roughly 250 million years ago, and the pale rock against the sea has led some to compare the area to the Aegean coast. It is designated a Wakayama prefectural natural park, and the shore is counted among Japan's 100 best coastal scenes. Facilities include a roadside station selling local produce and seafood, an eat-in area, a campground and a hilltop observation deck. The surrounding waters are popular for scuba diving. The park is reached most easily by car, with free parking on site.
