About This Destination
Japan's most celebrated cherry blossom viewing site, with approximately 30,000 cherry trees covering the mountainside in four distinct zones from base to summit.
Mount Yoshino has been revered for over 1,300 years as Japan's finest cherry blossom destination. The mountain's approximately 30,000 trees bloom progressively from the lower slopes (Shimo-Senbon) to the summit (Oku-Senbon) between late March and late April, offering an extended viewing season. The area is also a UNESCO World Heritage Site as part of the Sacred Sites and Pilgrimage Routes in the Kii Mountain Range, with numerous temples and shrines dotting the mountainside. Visitors can hike the scenic trails or take the ropeway to enjoy panoramic views of the blossoms. In autumn, the mountain transforms with vivid red and orange foliage, making it a worthwhile visit beyond spring.
