About This Destination

A stop on the Route 145 Yamba bypass at the foot of Fudo Ohashi, one of the bridges built for Yamba Dam. Soak your feet in the free hot-spring footbath and look out over the 590-meter bridge.

Yamba Furusatokan sits at the Hayashi junction where Route 145 meets the Fudo Ohashi, a 590-meter bridge built as part of the Yamba Dam project. The old valley road and much of Kawarayu Onsen now lie under the reservoir. This station is a good place to see how much the landscape has changed.

The hot-spring footbath is free, and it is the reason most people linger. Inside, the Yamba Ichiba market sells local produce and a wide range of dried beans, including purple and white hanamame runner beans. The Yamba Shokudo serves dam curry, shaped to look like the dam, alongside other Gunma dishes.

This is a mountain stop, and winter hours are shorter. The shop and restaurant keep different hours, and in the winter months there are some Wednesday closures. If you plan to come by train, Kawarayu Onsen Station on the JR Agatsuma Line is about 15 to 20 minutes away on foot.
