Michi-no-Eki Shinwa-no-Sato Shirousagi
About This Destination
In the Kojiki story, a white hare tricks a line of sharks into forming a bridge, gets skinned for it and is healed by the god Okuninushi. The beach where that happened is supposed to be the one right across Route 9 from this station, and the whole place leans into it: rabbit sweets, rabbit charms and a real rabbit kept as station master since 2009.
The food is the practical reason to stop. Ginrin-tei, the upstairs restaurant, keeps seawater tanks and cooks local fish to order, while the downstairs food court covers quicker meals such as the Mosa burger, built around Tottori ingredients. Hakuto Shrine sits just behind the building, along a path lined with small stone rabbits, and is known for matchmaking prayers.
Weekends and holidays fill the car park, so arrive early if you can. The shop runs shorter hours from early December to the end of February, and the restaurant and food court keep their own schedules, so check before planning a late lunch. Tottori city centre is roughly a 20-minute drive east.
