Michi-no-Eki Senmaida Pocket Park
About This Destination
The Shiroyone Senmaida terraces drop in small, uneven paddies down a steep slope straight into the Sea of Japan. Of the paddies here, 1,004 are a nationally designated Place of Scenic Beauty. This roadside station on Route 249 is the place to see them from, and the view over the terraces is the reason to come.
The January 2024 earthquake cracked the paddies and the station closed. The September 2024 floods hit the area again. As of 2026, the station has reopened on Fridays, Saturdays, Sundays and public holidays only. The shop runs from 10:00 to 15:00 and the restaurant from 11:00 to 14:00. The terraces are coming back slowly: the owner program resumed in 2026 after three years, and around 480 paddies were planted in May, about double the year before.
Not everything has returned. The winter Aze no Kirameki illumination had not resumed as of May 2026, and on weekdays the shop and restaurant are closed. Route 249 along this coast has been rebuilt in stages and can close after heavy rain, so check road information before the drive from Wajima.
