Michi-no-Eki Kirara Taki
About This Destination
You spot this one from the road by the big KIRARA letters and the Scandinavian-style building on the bluff. Steps lead straight down to Kirara Beach, a shallow stretch of the Kiku coast that is picked as one of Japan's 100 best places to watch the sun set. On a clear evening it is worth timing the drive so you are here at dusk.
Taki, now part of Izumo, grows figs, and the produce corner is built around them: fresh fruit in season, fig soft serve and a range of fig sweets the rest of the year. The food court adds simple meals such as takoyaki made with local seafood and ramen. Taki Ichijiku Onsen, a day-use hot spring, and the Kirara Cottage lodgings are close by if you want to stay longer.
The San'in Expressway's Izumo-Taki interchange opened in March 2025, so the station is now an easy break on the way between Izumo and Iwami Ginzan or Hamada. Fresh figs are a late-summer and autumn crop, so outside that window expect processed fig products only. The station closes on occasional days outside July and August.
