Michi-no-Eki Kasaoka Bay Farm
About This Destination
Michi-no-Eki Kasaoka Bay Farm opened in August 2011 on land that used to be the sea. Kasaoka Bay was drained by a national project over about twenty years, and the station sits in the middle of the flat farmland that resulted, off the Kasaoka Bypass of Route 2. The flower fields next door are the reason to come. Rapeseed blossom runs from mid-February to early April, poppies follow in May, sunflowers in summer and cosmos in October.
The market sells fish brought straight from Kasaoka port, morning-picked vegetables from the reclaimed farms and Kasaoka beef. Look too for products of the Kasaoka islands offshore, such as hijiki seaweed and haiboshi, fish dried under a layer of ash. Restaurant Shikisai serves a lunch buffet built from what the market sells, and it gets busy; the Himawari Cafe covers drinks and snacks.
Flower timing depends on the weather, so check the operator's updates before driving out for one particular bloom. The 2026 Sunflower Fair ran from 1 to 9 August. One practical note: to deter late-night gatherings of cars and motorbikes, the national road office began switching off every car park light after 22:00 in November 2025.
