About This Destination

A farm market on Route 386 at the entrance to Harazuru Onsen, five minutes from Haki IC. Asakura is fruit country, and in late autumn the Fuyu persimmons piled up inside are the reason to stop.

Harazuru is the station drivers pass on the way into Harazuru Onsen, the hot spring town on the Chikugo River that Fukuoka people call the city's back parlor. It sits on Route 386 about five minutes from Haki IC on the Oita Expressway, so it works as a first or last stop on a trip through the Asakura area.

The produce hall is called Farm Station Basaro, and it fills with vegetables and fruit picked that morning. The station's own pick is the Fuyu persimmon, sold fresh in season and also turned into persimmon chips and dressing. Asakura's tourist information desk is inside too, and staff can point you to fruit-picking farms nearby.

Lunch is the narrow window here. The MLIT directory lists the restaurant from 10:30 to 14:30, while the shop runs until evening. Sources disagree on the exact closing time and the house number, so call ahead if you are planning around a meal.
