Michi-no-Eki Asagiri Kogen
About This Destination
The Asagiri plateau is dairy country, and this roadside station on Route 139 is where most drivers meet it. Fields and cattle sheds spread across the western foot of Mount Fuji, and on a clear day the mountain looks close enough to touch from the car park. Clouds roll in quickly here, though. Early morning usually gives the best chance of a clean view.
The ice cream workshop uses milk from the plateau for its soft-serve and ice cream, and the flavors change through the year. There is also a restaurant and a shop for local products. The station marked its 25th anniversary in spring 2026. It is also a designated disaster-prevention station, a base for relief teams if a major earthquake hits the region.
The shop and the restaurant keep different hours, and the operator has changed them by season in the past. Fog is common on the plateau, as the name suggests. Drive the stretch of Route 139 near the prefectural border with care in poor visibility and in winter.
