About This Destination

A dramatic 30-meter wide waterfall where the river splits and pours into a deep gorge from both sides. Often called the Niagara of the Orient. A walking trail follows the gorge past multiple viewpoints. Especially impressive after rain.
Often called the Niagara of the Orient, Fukiware Falls spreads dramatically across a 30-meter width where the Katashina River splits and pours into a deep gorge from both sides. The unique formation, where water seems to tear the rock apart rather than simply dropping over it, creates an impressive spectacle best viewed from the observation platform across the gorge. Autumn transforms the surrounding forests into a fiery display, while summer visitors can descend stairs to feel cooling mist from the thundering cascade.
