About This Destination

A shallow tidal-flat beach in Mitoyo where thin water left at low tide creates mirror-like reflections, especially at sunset.
Chichibugahama is a tidal-flat beach on the Seto Inland Sea in the Nio district of Mitoyo. At low tide a thin layer of water remains on the flat sand, and on calm days it acts like a mirror that reflects the sky. The beach became widely known for photographs taken at sunset, when the reflected light produces silhouette-style images. The best conditions occur on windless evenings when low tide falls near sunset, so many visitors check both tide and sunset times. A free parking lot with space for about 300 cars is available near the beach. The nearest railway station is Takuma Station on the JR Yosan Line, from which the beach is roughly a 20-minute taxi ride.
