Canal City Hakata is a large shopping and entertainment complex in central Fukuoka, sometimes described as a city within the city. Opened in 1996, the complex features a canal running through its center with regularly scheduled fountain shows, approximately 250 shops and restaurants, cinemas, a theater, and two hotels. The architecture curves around the artificial canal, creating a unique amphitheater-like atmosphere. The Ramen Stadium on the fifth floor brings together famous ramen shops from across Japan. Located in the heart of the Hakata entertainment district, it is a seven-minute walk from JR Hakata Station and three minutes from Kushida Shrine Station on the subway. Fukuoka is widely considered Japan's best food city.
