Megijima is a small island in the Seto Inland Sea about 4 km off Takamatsu, with an area of roughly 2.6 square kilometers and around a hundred residents. It is popularly linked to the Onigashima (Ogre Island) of the Momotaro folk tale, after a local historian identified a large cave on the island as the ogres' lair about a century ago; a bus runs from the port up to the cave. Since the Setouchi Triennale began, the island has hosted contemporary artworks in and around its port, a closed school, and old houses. The port has a tourist information center with rental bicycles and cave-bus tickets. Reaching Megijima takes about 20 minutes by the Meon ferry from Takamatsu Port. The island is compact enough to explore on foot or by bicycle.
