Korankei is a gorge centered on the Tomoe River and Mount Iimori, which rises to about 254 meters, in the Asuke area of Toyota. Roughly 4,000 maple trees line the valley, and it is one of the best-known places in Japan to view autumn colors. During the November foliage season the area holds a maple festival, and the trees are lit up in the evenings. Walking paths follow the river and lead up the mountain past the temple Kojakuji. In spring the slopes are covered with colonies of dogtooth violets.
