The Kochi Sunday Market, or Nichiyo-ichi, is a street market held every Sunday along Otesuji in central Kochi city. It began in 1690 and has run for more than 300 years, stretching roughly one kilometre from near Kochi Castle's Otemon Gate with about 300 stalls. Vendors sell local vegetables and fruit, plants and flowers, prepared foods, tools and everyday goods. Local specialities such as imomochi and fresh produce from nearby farms are common. The market runs from early morning until late afternoon, and the earlier hours are the busiest. It is a short walk from JR Kochi Station and the city tram line.
