# Odawara Castle

> Odawara’s reconstructed keep rises above moats, gates and a castle park close to the station. The site introduces the Hojo clan’s Kanto stronghold and offers a convenient historical stop before continuing into Hakone or along the coast.

Odawara Castle anchors a city whose position between the Kanto plain, the mountains and the sea gave it considerable strategic value. It is best known as the base of the later Hojo clan, whose power ended after Toyotomi Hideyoshi’s campaign in 1590. The castle continued to change under the rulers who followed, leaving a history broader than a single siege.

The tower visitors see today is a modern reconstruction, with historical exhibitions inside. Around it, moats, stone walls and restored gates make the approach as interesting as the climb through the keep. Follow the entrance sequence on foot to appreciate how these barriers controlled movement into the castle grounds. The upper level gives a different perspective on the town and its coastal setting.

Because the park is close to Odawara Station, the visit fits easily into a journey toward Hakone. Allow time for both the outdoor circuit and any ticketed interiors. Check the official site for separate facility hours rather than assuming that every building follows the park’s access arrangements.
