Shichinohe is horse country, and the station does not let you forget it. Bronze statues of two Japanese Derby winners, from 1957 and 1962, stand in the building. Next door, the Takayama Uichi Memorial Art Museum shows the local painter’s work and part of a collection of Nanbu ko-ema, small painted votive tablets from temple halls in the town, a collection that is a nationally designated folk cultural property. The museum charges admission; the rest of the station is free.

Shichisaikan, the farm market, is what put the station in Jalan’s 2026 national top five. In spring it sells nagaimo yam that spent the winter in the ground and came out sweeter, along with carrots and wild mountain greens. In summer the tomato section takes over, and the range of varieties is the highlight. Autumn brings daikon, turnips, leeks and chestnuts. Hand-made soba is made in front of you.

The station is on Route 4 and a five-minute walk from Shichinohe-Towada Station, so it works even without a car. In 2021 it became the first roadside station in Aomori designated as a disaster-response base.
