# Michi-no-Eki Nara Rekishi Geijutsu Bunkamura

> Few roadside stations let you watch conservators at work. At this prefectural culture village in Tenri, you look through glass at Buddhist statues, paintings and old building parts under repair, then shop for Nara produce and crafts.

This is not a typical roadside stop. Nara Prefecture opened the culture village in March 2022 on the southern edge of Tenri, and it was registered as a michi-no-eki the year before. Its main building holds working conservation studios for sculpture, paintings and calligraphy, historic buildings and archaeological finds. You watch the restorers through glass.

The exchange building is the roadside-station part. It sells Nara produce and traditional crafts, and its restaurant uses local produce and looks out over the Yamato plain. Separate buildings run hands-on art workshops and special exhibitions.

Plan around Mondays. The conservation and experience buildings close on Mondays (the next weekday after a Monday holiday), but the market and restaurant stay open. The other buildings close from 28 December to 4 January; the shop closes 30 December to 3 January and the restaurant 30 December to 4 January. The car park holds about 80 cars.
