Matsuura's port lands a lot of aji, or horse mackerel, and in 2019 the city adopted a charter declaring itself the holy land of aji fry. The roadside station is the easiest place to test the claim. Its aji fry is made from fish fresh enough to eat as sashimi, cooked to order and sold to take away, and it draws a queue most days.

The market also sells fresh fish straight from local ports, mackerel and other seafood products, and vegetables. Outside there is a large playground and a lawn, plus a fishing-village experience facility. One of the city's four stone aji fry monuments stands on the grounds, if you are collecting them.

The station sits where Route 204 and its bypass meet, roughly halfway along the coastal drive from Fukuoka toward Hirado. On weekends and holidays the food counter is busiest from 11:00 to 13:00. It is listed as serving only until about 14:00, so a late lunch is a gamble.
