Oysters from Mushiake, the bay village this stretch of the Okayama Blue Line runs above, are the local specialty, and from November to March the station's oyster hut serves them grilled. That alone makes it a winter destination. The rest of the year the draw shifts: strawberry picking runs from November to the end of May, barbecue from April to November, and mandarin picking from mid-October to early December.

The Yuyu Koryukan market sells local produce, fish and souvenirs such as shirasu products from nearby Ushimado and kibi dango. Its lotus-root croquettes are a popular buy, and the new Okanoue Sorairo Cafe, opened in July 2026, puts one in a burger alongside fresh bread and set lunches. Dogs are welcome on its terrace.

Strawberry picking, the oyster hut and barbecue take reservations first, so walk-ins can be turned away on busy weekends. The fish counter closes on Wednesdays and the market shuts from 1 to 3 January. The station is about 15 minutes from the Bizen interchange on the Sanyo Expressway.
