# Michi-no-Eki Kirara Taki

> A Nordic-looking station on a terrace above the Sea of Japan, on Route 9 west of Izumo. Taki figs are the local crop, sold fresh in season and turned into soft serve, and Kirara Beach below is listed among Japan's top 100 sunset spots.

You spot this one from the road by the big KIRARA letters and the Scandinavian-style building on the bluff. Steps lead straight down to Kirara Beach, a shallow stretch of the Kiku coast that is picked as one of Japan's 100 best places to watch the sun set. On a clear evening it is worth timing the drive so you are here at dusk.

Taki, now part of Izumo, grows figs, and the produce corner is built around them: fresh fruit in season, fig soft serve and a range of fig sweets the rest of the year. The food court adds simple meals such as takoyaki made with local seafood and ramen. Taki Ichijiku Onsen, a day-use hot spring, and the Kirara Cottage lodgings are close by if you want to stay longer.

The San'in Expressway's Izumo-Taki interchange opened in March 2025, so the station is now an easy break on the way between Izumo and Iwami Ginzan or Hamada. Fresh figs are a late-summer and autumn crop, so outside that window expect processed fig products only. The station closes on occasional days outside July and August.
