Kamiamakusa Sunpearl stands in the middle of Oyano, on Route 266 a short drive into the Amakusa islands from the Uto Peninsula. Tenmon Bridge (bridge No. 1) and Oyano Bridge (No. 2) are both close by, which makes this the natural first break on the Amakusa Five Bridges drive. Allow about 40 minutes from Matsubase IC on the Kyushu Expressway.

The restaurant's draw is seafood bowls made with fish landed locally, and the shop covers seasonal produce, fish and processed seafood from around the islands. Winter brings Yushima daikon from the small island offshore, sweet and heavy, which the Kumamoto Nichinichi newspaper reported was stocked here into early February in the 2024-25 season.

Expect a short lunch window: listings give the restaurant as 11:00 to 15:00. The shop is open 8:00 to 17:00 and closes January 1 to 3 and on the second and fourth Tuesdays (no closing days in July, August and December). Hours can change, so check the station's Instagram or phone before a late visit.
