# Katori Shrine

> A wooded shrine in Katori dedicated to Futsunushi, with a long approach and dark wooden sanctuary buildings.

- Prefecture: Chiba
- Type: Shrine
- Address: Katori, Chiba, Japan
- Official site: https://katori-jingu.or.jp/

Katori Shrine stands on a wooded hill outside the old merchant district of Sawara. Follow the approach through the trees to the gate and main sanctuary; the setting gives the visit a different character from Sawara’s canals and warehouses. The shrine is dedicated to Futsunushi, a deity associated with Japan’s foundation myths. Allow separate travel time between the shrine and central Sawara.
