- [Zuihoden](https://travel.japanvoyage.jp/travel_destinations/zuihoden): Miyagi, Historic site. The ornate mausoleum of Date Masamune, Zuihoden is an example of Momoyama-period architecture with elaborate gold leaf and lacquer decorations set among towering cedar trees.
- [Shiogama Shrine](https://travel.japanvoyage.jp/travel_destinations/shiogama-shrine): Miyagi, Shrine. One of the most important shrines in the Tohoku region, perched on a hilltop overlooking Matsushima Bay. Known for its ancient cedar trees and spectacular cherry blossoms, including rare late-blooming salt cherry trees.
- [Matsushima Bay](https://travel.japanvoyage.jp/travel_destinations/matsushima-bay): Miyagi, Attraction. A bay dotted with over 260 pine-covered islands, celebrated as one of Japan's Three Most Scenic Views.
- [Sendai](https://travel.japanvoyage.jp/travel_destinations/sendai): Miyagi, City. Known as the City of Trees, Sendai is the largest city in the Tohoku region, famous for Date Masamune's castle ruins, the Jozenji-dori zelkova avenue, and delicious grilled beef tongue (gyutan).
- [Sendai Tanabata Festival Area](https://travel.japanvoyage.jp/travel_destinations/sendai-tanabata-festival-area): Miyagi, Attraction. One of the three great Tohoku festivals, held every August along Sendai's covered shopping arcades. Thousands of handmade bamboo decorations in vivid colors transform the city center into a dazzling spectacle.
- [Akiu Onsen](https://travel.japanvoyage.jp/travel_destinations/akiu-onsen): Miyagi, Onsen. One of Japan's oldest hot spring resorts, set in a scenic river valley just 30 minutes from Sendai. Known for the nearby Akiu Great Falls and traditional ryokan stays.
- [Okama Crater Lake](https://travel.japanvoyage.jp/travel_destinations/okama-crater-lake): Miyagi, Landmark. A round crater lake about 325 m across at 1,550 m in the Zao range, inside the Miyagi side of the Miyagi and Yamagata border. Its acidic water, around pH 3.5, holds no life and shifts colour with light and weather. Most people drive up the Zao Echo Line and the Zao Highline toll road, which close every winter.
- [Tashirojima](https://travel.japanvoyage.jp/travel_destinations/tashirojima): Miyagi, Island. A small fishing island off Ishinomaki where cats wander the lanes and a tiny shrine honours one of them. The ferry runs only a few times a day and there is almost nothing to buy, so plan the day around the boat.
- [Michi-no-Eki A-ra-Date](https://travel.japanvoyage.jp/travel_destinations/michi-no-eki-a-ra-date): Miyagi, Michi no eki. One of the busiest roadside stations in Tohoku, on Route 47 in Iwadeyama on the way to Naruko Onsen. It came second for visitor satisfaction in Jalan's 2026 national ranking, and it sells Royce' chocolate thanks to a sister-town link with Tobetsu in Hokkaido.
- [Michi-no-Eki Sansan Minamisanriku](https://travel.japanvoyage.jp/travel_destinations/michi-no-eki-sansan-minamisanriku): Miyagi, Michi no eki. Rebuilt Shizugawa after the 2011 tsunami, all in one place: the Sansan shopping street, the Minamisanriku 311 Memorial and the BRT stop. Come for a seafood bowl, then cross the cedar bridge to the memorial park overlooking the bay.
- [Sendai Castle Ruins](https://travel.japanvoyage.jp/travel_destinations/sendai-castle-ruins): Miyagi, Castle. Above Sendai on wooded Aobayama, Date Masamune’s former stronghold combines imposing stone walls with an expansive city view. The mounted statue marks the familiar panorama, while the surviving castle landscape reveals the hill’s defensive importance.
- [Sendai Daikannon](https://travel.japanvoyage.jp/travel_destinations/sendai-daikannon): Miyagi, Landmark. A 100-metre white-robed Kannon statue standing over a housing estate in Sendai's Izumi Ward, completed in 1991. A lift takes you up through 12 levels inside, where 108 Buddhist statues line floors 3 to 11; entry is 500 yen.
- [Naruko Onsen](https://travel.japanvoyage.jp/travel_destinations/naruko-onsen): Miyagi, Onsen. A hot spring town in the hills of northwest Miyagi, about 45 minutes from Furukawa on the JR Rikuu East Line. Naruko is a kokeshi town: its dolls have heads fitted into the body that squeak when you turn them, and a street of doll shops leads up from the station. Takino-yu, the public bath beside the Onsen Shrine, costs 300 yen. In late October Naruko Gorge turns red and the town fills up.
- [Yagiyama Benyland](https://travel.japanvoyage.jp/travel_destinations/yagiyama-benyland): Miyagi, Amusement park. Tohoku's long-running city amusement park, open since 1968 on Yagiyama hill next to the zoo. Around thirty rides, four coasters including a double-loop Corkscrew, and most rides are fine from age three.
