- [Fuji-Q Highland](https://travel.japanvoyage.jp/travel_destinations/fuji-q-highland): Yamanashi, Amusement park. A thrilling amusement park at the base of Mt. Fuji known for record-breaking roller coasters and haunted attractions.
- [Kawaguchiko](https://travel.japanvoyage.jp/travel_destinations/kawaguchiko): Yamanashi, Attraction. Scenic lake at the northern base of Mount Fuji, with classic views and year-round outdoor activities.
- [Chureito Pagoda](https://travel.japanvoyage.jp/travel_destinations/chureito-pagoda): Yamanashi, Landmark. Standing five stories tall against the backdrop of Japan's best-known mountain, Chureito Pagoda offers the classic photo opportunity that has appeared on countless postcards and travel guides. The 398-step climb through fragrant cedar trees rewards visitors with a sweeping vista where the vermillion pagoda frames snow-capped Mount Fuji. Spring brings cascading cherry blossoms while autumn paints the hillside in reds and golds, giving each season its own look.
- [Saiko Iyashi no Sato Nenba](https://travel.japanvoyage.jp/travel_destinations/saiko-iyashi-no-sato-nenba): Yamanashi, Historic site. Saiko Iyashi no Sato Nenba is a restored thatched-roof village at the northwestern base of Mount Fuji, its traditional farmhouses now serving as artisan workshops, galleries, and local history museums. The village was rebuilt after being destroyed by a typhoon in 1966, and today offers one of the most photogenic views of Mount Fuji framed by historic Japanese architecture.
- [Shosenkyo Gorge](https://travel.japanvoyage.jp/travel_destinations/shosenkyo-gorge): Yamanashi, Attraction. Shosenkyo Gorge is a scenic 5-kilometer granite ravine along the Arakawa River that has been designated one of Japan's most beautiful valleys. Walking trails lead along the river past dramatic rock formations to the Senga Falls, while autumn turns the surrounding forests into a display of color.
- [Takeda Shrine](https://travel.japanvoyage.jp/travel_destinations/takeda-shrine): Yamanashi, Shrine. Takeda Shrine is dedicated to the legendary warlord Takeda Shingen, one of Japan's most famous samurai generals of the Sengoku period. Built on the ruins of his family's Tsutsujigasaki castle, the shrine draws visitors seeking blessings for victory, success in competition, and triumph over adversity.
- [Nishiyama Onsen Keiunkan](https://travel.japanvoyage.jp/travel_destinations/nishiyama-onsen-keiunkan): Yamanashi, Onsen. A hot-spring inn far up the Hayakawa valley that dates its spring to 705 and holds the Guinness record for the oldest hotel. Overnight guests only, no day bathing. The one road in, Prefectural Road 37, closes in heavy rain, and the inn's only shuttle leaves Minobu Station once a day at about 13:40, booked in advance.
- [Michi-no-Eki Hakushu](https://travel.japanvoyage.jp/travel_destinations/michi-no-eki-hakushu): Yamanashi, Michi no eki. On Route 20 at the foot of Mt. Kai-Komagatake, where locals queue with plastic jugs for free spring water around the clock. Have hoto at the Kamoshika canteen and a Shingen-mochi soft serve before heading on.
- [Kitadake](https://travel.japanvoyage.jp/travel_destinations/kitadake): Yamanashi, Mountain. At 3,193 meters, Kitadake in the Southern Alps is second only to Fuji, and the only place on earth where the Kitadake buttercup grows. The Hirogawara trailhead can be reached only by bus or taxi, and only from late June to early November; most climbers spend a night at a hut on the way.
- [Lake Shoji](https://travel.japanvoyage.jp/travel_destinations/lake-shoji): Yamanashi, Attraction. The smallest of the Fuji Five Lakes, about 0.5 km² and 6.8 km around, and the quietest. From the north shore Fuji rises behind the smaller cone of Omuroyama, the view locals call Kodaki Fuji, Fuji holding a child. Few buses and almost no shops: come by car or plan around the Blue Line.
- [Minobusan Kuon-ji](https://travel.japanvoyage.jp/travel_destinations/minobusan-kuon-ji): Yamanashi, Temple. Head temple of the Nichiren Shu school, where Nichiren lived from 1274 and where his ashes rest. Most visitors climb the 287 steep stone steps of the Bodaitei to the main hall. The weeping cherry, about 400 years old, draws big crowds when it flowers around the end of March. The grounds are free.
- [Saruhashi Bridge](https://travel.japanvoyage.jp/travel_destinations/saruhashi-bridge): Yamanashi, Landmark. A wooden-clad footbridge 30.9 meters long that crosses the Katsura River gorge about 31 meters above the water with no piers at all, held up by four layers of beams pushed out from each cliff. It is counted among Japan's three strange bridges and is a 15-minute walk from JR Saruhashi Station.
- [Lake Motosuko](https://travel.japanvoyage.jp/travel_destinations/lake-motosuko): Yamanashi, Attraction. The westernmost and deepest of the Fuji Five Lakes; the local tourism association calls its water the clearest on Honshu. The view of Fuji on the back of the Noguchi Hideyo 1,000-yen note was drawn from a photograph taken above its north-west shore, and you can climb to that spot in about 30 minutes from the Nakanokura Pass trailhead. Part of the Fujisan World Heritage property, along with its neighbours Saiko and Shojiko. Far from trains: easiest by car.
- [Lake Yamanakako](https://travel.japanvoyage.jp/travel_destinations/lake-yamanakako): Yamanashi, Attraction. The largest of the Fuji Five Lakes and, at about 980 metres, the highest, on the east side of Mount Fuji. From mid-October to late February the sun sets on the summit as seen from points around the shore. It is a component of the Fujisan World Heritage property, a place where Edo-period pilgrims purified themselves in the water. There is no railway: buses from Shinjuku take about 2 hours 20 minutes.
