- [Takasaki Byakue Daikannon](https://travel.japanvoyage.jp/travel_destinations/takasaki-byakue-daikannon): Gunma, Landmark. A striking 42-meter white Kannon statue built in 1936, standing on a hilltop overlooking Takasaki. Visitors can climb inside to the shoulder level for panoramic views. The surrounding park is a popular cherry blossom spot.
- [Fukiware Falls](https://travel.japanvoyage.jp/travel_destinations/fukiware-falls): Gunma, Attraction. A dramatic 30-meter wide waterfall where the river splits and pours into a deep gorge from both sides. Often called the Niagara of the Orient. A walking trail follows the gorge past multiple viewpoints. Especially impressive after rain.
- [Mount Haruna](https://travel.japanvoyage.jp/travel_destinations/mount-haruna): Gunma, Mountain. A cluster of volcanic peaks around Lake Haruna, west of Ikaho Onsen. A ropeway climbs the cone of Haruna Fuji in under three minutes, and manga fans know the mountain as the model for Mount Akina in Initial D.
- [Karuizawa Toy Kingdom](https://travel.japanvoyage.jp/travel_destinations/karuizawa-toy-kingdom): Gunma, Amusement park. A seasonal park for young families in the Tsumagoi highlands, despite the Karuizawa name. - [Mount Tanigawa](https://travel.japanvoyage.jp/travel_destinations/mount-tanigawa): Gunma, Mountain. A 1,977-meter peak on the Gunma and Niigata border where more than 800 climbers have died since 1931, most of them on the east-face rock walls. Ordinary hikers ride the ropeway to Tenjindaira and take the Tenjin Ridge: about three hours up and two down.
- [Hoshi Onsen Chojukan](https://travel.japanvoyage.jp/travel_destinations/hoshi-onsen-chojukan): Gunma, Onsen. Hoshi Onsen is a single wooden inn, Chojukan, at the foot of the Mikuni Pass. Its big bath, Hoshi-no-yu, dates from 1895, and the roughly 40°C water comes straight up from the rock under the stones you sit on. Reaching it without a car means a train, a bus and a town bus that runs four times a day.
- [Doai Station](https://travel.japanvoyage.jp/travel_destinations/doai-station): Gunma, Landmark. An unstaffed JR Joetsu Line station whose down-line platform sits inside the Shin-Shimizu Tunnel, about 70 meters below the station building. Getting out means climbing 462 steps, then another 24, which takes about 10 minutes. Only five trains stop each way per day, so plan around the timetable.
- [Mount Akagi](https://travel.japanvoyage.jp/travel_destinations/mount-akagi): Gunma, Mountain. A ring of peaks around a caldera above Maebashi, with Lake Onuma and the red halls of Akagi Shrine at the center. Kurobi-san, the 1,828-meter high point, is a steep half-day loop from the lake shore.

Book a soba-making session or just walk between the houses and orchards.

A stop on the Route 145 Yamba bypass at the foot of Fudo Ohashi, one of the bridges built for Yamba Dam. Soak your feet in the free hot-spring footbath and look out over the 590-meter bridge.
