Its sulfur water comes from the Daikyokan hell in front, three steam vents rise in its own garden, and its baths are for overnight guests only.

A single weeping cherry in the hamlet of Hongo, Uda, said to be about 300 years old, 13 metres tall and over 3 metres round the trunk. It stands on a stone wall where, local tradition says, the warrior Goto Matabei spent his last years. It usually blooms from late March to early April, and outside those weeks there is nothing to come for. Expect photographers before sunrise and full car parks on weekends.

A mountain temple about 4 km up a valley road from Route 169, where medieval monks worked out the brewing methods behind modern sake. The starter called bodaimoto is still made here every January, and seven Nara breweries sell sake made from it at the Fukujuin hall. In November over 3,000 maples turn. Outside the leaf season there is no bus, so come by car or taxi.
- [Tsukigase Plum Grove](https://travel.japanvoyage.jp/travel_destinations/tsukigase-plum-grove): Nara, Park. Around 10,000 red and white plum trees on both sides of the Nabari river gorge (called the Satsuki river here), at the eastern edge of Nara city near the Mie border. Nara city says it was among the first places named a Place of Scenic Beauty in 1922, alongside Nara Park and Kenroku-en. The trees bloom from mid-February into March. Entry is free; getting there is the effort, with about three buses a day from Nara.
