- [Michi-no-Eki Aizu Yugawa Aizubange](https://travel.japanvoyage.jp/travel_destinations/michi-no-eki-aizu-yugawa-aizubange): Fukushima, Michi no eki. A farm market on Route 49 beside the Aga River, run jointly by Yugawa village and Aizubange town. Rice, seasonal vegetables and Aizu heirloom varieties come from around 240 registered farms, and there is a farm restaurant and a gelato shop.
- [Michi-no-Eki Inakadate](https://travel.japanvoyage.jp/travel_destinations/michi-no-eki-inakadate): Aomori, Michi no eki. A Route 102 bypass stop in the village that started Japan's rice paddy art. From the viewing tower you look down on the second art field in summer; the rest of the year it is a farm shop and a bowl of ancient-rice ramen.
- [Michi-no-Eki Kasaoka Bay Farm](https://travel.japanvoyage.jp/travel_destinations/michi-no-eki-kasaoka-bay-farm): Okayama, Michi no eki. A farm market on the flat reclaimed land of Kasaoka Bay, next to fields planted for each season: rapeseed blossom in spring, poppies in May, sunflowers in summer and cosmos in autumn. Lunch is a buffet of local produce.
- [Michi-no-Eki Saijo Nonta-no-Sakagura](https://travel.japanvoyage.jp/travel_destinations/michi-no-eki-saijo-nonta-no-sakagura): Hiroshima, Michi no eki. A sake-brewery-style station beside the Route 2 Saijo Bypass, opened in 2022. Its market stocks sake from ten Higashihiroshima breweries, and a food court and Italian restaurant use local ingredients.
- [Michi-no-Eki Yonezawa](https://travel.japanvoyage.jp/travel_destinations/michi-no-eki-yonezawa): Yamagata, Michi no eki. A large station opened in 2018 about 200 meters from Yonezawa-Chuo IC on the Tohoku-Chuo Expressway. Come for Yonezawa beef, Yonezawa ramen and Okitama produce, then head into the old castle town.
- [Mount Ontake](https://travel.japanvoyage.jp/travel_destinations/mount-ontake): Nagano, Mountain. A 3,067-meter active volcano on the Nagano and Gifu border, the second-highest volcano in Japan after Fuji. The 2014 eruption killed 58 climbers and 5 remain missing; the summit area now opens only for a summer season, usually from early July to mid-October. The Ontake Ropeway lifts you to the seventh station at 2,150 meters.
- [Sumatakyo Gorge](https://travel.japanvoyage.jp/travel_destinations/sumatakyo-gorge): Shizuoka, Trail. A gorge at the top of the Oi River valley where the Yume no Tsuribashi, a 90-meter footbridge, hangs 8 meters above a turquoise dam lake. Only 10 people can cross at a time, so autumn weekends mean long queues.
- [Tamaudun](https://travel.japanvoyage.jp/travel_destinations/tamaudun): Okinawa, Historic site. The tomb of the Second Sho Dynasty kings, built around 1501 by King Sho Shin: a walled courtyard of white coral gravel in front of a long stone building in three chambers, guarded by carved lions. It was the first building in Okinawa to be named a National Treasure (2018) and is one of the nine parts of the Gusuku Sites World Heritage property. A few minutes west of Shureimon, 300 yen, open every day.
- [Tottori Castle Ruins](https://travel.japanvoyage.jp/travel_destinations/tottori-castle-ruins): Tottori, Castle. Stone terraces climb Mount Kyusho above Tottori, preserving the outline of a castle famous for Hideyoshi’s 1581 siege. The lower grounds offer a gentle park visit, while the higher ruins turn the outing into a wooded hill walk.
- [Yamato-Koriyama Goldfish Town](https://travel.japanvoyage.jp/travel_destinations/yamato-koriyama-goldfish-town): Nara, Neighborhood. The old castle town below Koriyama Castle has bred goldfish for about 300 years and still has around 20 farms. Yanagimachi shopping street keeps about 30 goldfish tanks outside its shops, Konyamachi has a canal running down the middle of the street, and every August the National Goldfish Scooping Championship comes to town. All of it is free, and the streets and museums are within 10 minutes' walk of Kintetsu Koriyama.
- [Yunotsu](https://travel.japanvoyage.jp/travel_destinations/yunotsu): Shimane, Onsen. A one-street onsen town running down a narrow valley to a small Sea of Japan harbour, once the port that shipped silver from Iwami Ginzan and one of the 14 component parts of that World Heritage Site. Shimane Prefecture says it is the only onsen town in Japan chosen as a Preservation District for Groups of Traditional Buildings. Come for the two old public baths, Motoyu and Yakushi-yu, and Iwami kagura at the town shrine on Saturday nights. Quiet, with little to do after dark beyond that.
- [Abe Monju-in](https://travel.japanvoyage.jp/travel_destinations/abe-monju-in): Nara, Temple. A temple of the Abe clan south of Sakurai Station. The main hall holds a group of five National Treasures by Kaikei, led by a Monju bodhisattva on a lion about 7 m tall and dated 1203. Temple tradition says the onmyoji Abe no Seimei was born here. The grounds, a 7th-century stone tomb you can step into, and the seasonal flower plots are free; the halls cost 700 yen each, or 1,200 yen for both.
- [Ako Castle Ruins](https://travel.japanvoyage.jp/travel_destinations/ako-castle-ruins): Hyogo, Castle. Irregular moats and stone walls outline Ako’s former coastal fortress, associated with the Asano family and the story of the forty-seven ronin. Restored gates and exposed palace foundations help visitors read a castle that has no standing main keep.
- [Hirado St. Francis Xavier Memorial Church](https://travel.japanvoyage.jp/travel_destinations/hirado-st-francis-xavier-memorial-church): Nagasaki, Historic site. A pale green Gothic church built in 1931 on a hill above Hirado's old town, known as the Xavier Memorial Church after Francis Xavier, who came to Hirado in 1550. From the stone lane below, its spire rises behind the roofs of Buddhist temples.
- [Hokke-ji](https://travel.japanvoyage.jp/travel_destinations/hokke-ji): Nara, Temple. A working nunnery on the site of Empress Komyo's palace, just east of the Heijo Palace Site. Its National Treasure Eleven-faced Kannon, one metre tall, is shown only in three short windows a year: 20 March to 7 April, early June, and 24 October to 10 November in 2026. The rest of the year you see a modern copy, so time your visit.
