- [Kawazu Nanadaru Loop Bridge](https://travel.japanvoyage.jp/travel_destinations/kawazu-nanadaru-loop-bridge): Shizuoka, Landmark. A road bridge on Route 414 that turns two full circles, each about 80 meters across, to climb 45 meters in a narrow valley near the Kawazu Nanadaru waterfalls. There is no sidewalk, so walking across on the roadway is not advised, and people on foot look at it from the free parking lot inside the loop.
- [Manda Pit](https://travel.japanvoyage.jp/travel_destinations/manda-pit): Kumamoto, Historic site. A pit of the Mitsui Miike coal mine with its works still standing: an 18.8 m steel headframe from 1908, a brick winding house, and the bathhouse where miners washed off the coal dust. Coal came up here from 1902 to 1951. It belongs to the Miike Coal Mine and Miike Port part of the Sites of Japan's Meiji Industrial Revolution, with the Miyanohara Pit and Miike Port just across the border in Omuta. Entry is 410 yen.
- [Michi-no-Eki Aito Margaret Station](https://travel.japanvoyage.jp/travel_destinations/michi-no-eki-aito-margaret-station): Shiga, Michi no eki. A roadside station on Route 307 that grew out of a farmers' market. Come for the gelato made with local milk and fruit, then pick flowers in the fields next door when they are in season.
- [Michi-no-Eki Inakadate](https://travel.japanvoyage.jp/travel_destinations/michi-no-eki-inakadate): Aomori, Michi no eki. A Route 102 bypass stop in the village that started Japan's rice paddy art. From the viewing tower you look down on the second art field in summer; the rest of the year it is a farm shop and a bowl of ancient-rice ramen.
- [Michi-no-Eki Kitagawa Hayuma](https://travel.japanvoyage.jp/travel_destinations/michi-no-eki-kitagawa-hayuma): Miyazaki, Michi no eki. Right at Kitagawa IC, where Route 10 meets the Higashi-Kyushu Expressway, this is the first stop in northern Miyazaki. The toll-free stretch around the interchange makes it the expressway's unofficial service area, and the restaurant does Nobeoka's chicken nanban.
- [Michi-no-Eki Munakata](https://travel.japanvoyage.jp/travel_destinations/michi-no-eki-munakata): Fukuoka, Michi no eki. Fish from Kanezaki, Oshima and the other nearby ports arrives here every day, and the seafood section takes up about a third of the market floor. It has long been one of the best-selling roadside stations in Kyushu, so come in the morning.
- [Michi-no-Eki Park Shichiri Mihama](https://travel.japanvoyage.jp/travel_destinations/michi-no-eki-park-shichiri-mihama): Mie, Michi no eki. A Route 42 stop in Mihama, a town that sells itself on having mandarins in every season. Its own juice plant presses local citrus upstairs, and the long pebble beach of Shichiri Mihama is just across the road.
- [Michi-no-Eki Shichijo Melon Dome](https://travel.japanvoyage.jp/travel_destinations/michi-no-eki-shichijo-melon-dome): Kumamoto, Michi no eki. Three green melon-shaped domes on Route 325 in Kikuchi, filled with local melons, melon sweets and farm produce. One of Kumamoto's most visited roadside stations, and hard to miss from the road.
- [Michi-no-Eki Takachiho](https://travel.japanvoyage.jp/travel_destinations/michi-no-eki-takachiho): Miyazaki, Michi no eki. On Route 218 in the middle of Takachiho town, this station is easy to spot by its huge kagura-mask monument. Stop for Takachiho beef and local crafts, then pick up maps for the gorge and shrines a few minutes away.
- [Michi-no-Eki Takehara](https://travel.japanvoyage.jp/travel_destinations/michi-no-eki-takehara): Hiroshima, Michi no eki. A town-centre station on Route 185 that doubles as the entrance to Takehara's preserved merchant quarter. Park here, walk the old streets, and come back for sake from the town's three breweries and local bamboo craft.
- [Michi-no-Eki Wave Park Namerikawa](https://travel.japanvoyage.jp/travel_destinations/michi-no-eki-wave-park-namerikawa): Toyama, Michi no eki. A seafront station in Namerikawa built around the Hotaruika Museum, which explains the firefly squid that Toyama Bay is known for. Come in spring for the live glowing display; the rest of the year it is a quieter stop for squid snacks and bay views.
- [Michi-no-Eki Yunishigawa](https://travel.japanvoyage.jp/travel_destinations/michi-no-eki-yunishigawa): Tochigi, Michi no eki. A roadside station in the mountains of northern Nikko, joined directly to Yunishigawa-Onsen Station on the Yagan Railway. There is a day-use hot spring upstairs, a free footbath outside, and a shop known for smoked salamander.
- [Mount Haku](https://travel.japanvoyage.jp/travel_destinations/mount-haku): Ishikawa, Mountain. A 2,702-meter volcano on the border of Ishikawa and Gifu, counted with Fuji and Tateyama as one of Japan's three holy mountains. Most climbers start at Bettodeai, walk about four hours to the Murodo hut and reach the summit in another 40 minutes. On busy summer days private cars must stop at Ichinose and climbers ride a shuttle bus to the trailhead.
- [Nagaoka Tenmangu Shrine](https://travel.japanvoyage.jp/travel_destinations/nagaoka-tenmangu-shrine): Kyoto, Shrine. Crimson Kirishima azaleas line the pond crossing at Nagaoka Tenmangu, a shrine associated with scholar Sugawara no Michizane. Beyond the spring display, waterside paths and wooded precincts offer a rewarding stop along the Hankyu route between Osaka and Kyoto.
- [Nippara Limestone Cave](https://travel.japanvoyage.jp/travel_destinations/nippara-limestone-cave): Tokyo, Attraction. A lit limestone cave at the far end of the Nippara valley in Okutama, a Tokyo natural monument that stays at about 11°C all year. It is technically in Tokyo, but from Shinjuku it is about two hours by train to Okutama, then a mountain bus, and on weekends a 25-minute walk on top.
