- [Michi-no-Eki Nagomi](https://travel.japanvoyage.jp/travel_destinations/michi-no-eki-nagomi): Kyoto, Michi no eki. Nagomi sits beside the Yura River on Route 27 in northern Kyotamba. Farm vegetables, Wachi specialties and a terrace make it a useful place to break a countryside drive, with food counters that deserve a separate check of their hours.
- [Michi-no-Eki Okuhida Onsengo Kamitakara](https://travel.japanvoyage.jp/travel_destinations/michi-no-eki-okuhida-onsengo-kamitakara): Gifu, Michi no eki. A small Route 471 station beside the Takahara River, on the way into the Okuhida hot spring villages. Pick up local wasabi and hoba miso, eat char or Hida beef, and note the large campground next door.
- [Michi-no-Eki Park Shichiri Mihama](https://travel.japanvoyage.jp/travel_destinations/michi-no-eki-park-shichiri-mihama): Mie, Michi no eki. A Route 42 stop in Mihama, a town that sells itself on having mandarins in every season. Its own juice plant presses local citrus upstairs, and the long pebble beach of Shichiri Mihama is just across the road.
- [Michi-no-Eki Raiden Kurumi-no-Sato](https://travel.japanvoyage.jp/travel_destinations/michi-no-eki-raiden-kurumi-no-sato): Nagano, Michi no eki. A stop on the Asama Sunline in Tomi, a town known for walnuts. Buy walnut sweets and Shinshu soba, then look round the free exhibit on Raiden Tameemon, the Edo-period wrestler born here.
- [Michi-no-Eki Shizukuishi Anekko](https://travel.japanvoyage.jp/travel_destinations/michi-no-eki-shizukuishi-anekko): Iwate, Michi no eki. The last big stop on Route 46 before the mountains to Akita. It has a day-use hot spring with an outdoor bath next door, Shizukuishi beef in the restaurants, and a produce hall rebuilt in 2023.
- [Michi-no-Eki Takehara](https://travel.japanvoyage.jp/travel_destinations/michi-no-eki-takehara): Hiroshima, Michi no eki. A town-centre station on Route 185 that doubles as the entrance to Takehara's preserved merchant quarter. Park here, walk the old streets, and come back for sake from the town's three breweries and local bamboo craft.
- [Michi-no-Eki Takinomiya](https://travel.japanvoyage.jp/travel_destinations/michi-no-eki-takinomiya): Kagawa, Michi no eki. An udon and strawberry stop on Route 32, halfway between Takamatsu and Kotohira. Takinomiya claims to be where Sanuki udon began, and the station's self-service counter makes its noodles by hand.
- [Michi-no-Eki Takumi-no-Sato](https://travel.japanvoyage.jp/travel_destinations/michi-no-eki-takumi-no-sato): Gunma, Michi no eki. A roadside station spread across a farming village in Minakami, where more than 20 small workshops teach washi papermaking, indigo dyeing, woodwork and more. Book a soba-making session or just walk between the houses and orchards.
- [Michi-no-Eki Tarumizu](https://travel.japanvoyage.jp/travel_destinations/michi-no-eki-tarumizu): Kagoshima, Michi no eki. A hot spring roadside station on Route 220 across Kinko Bay from Sakurajima. The free footbath runs 60 meters along the shore, and the restaurant serves Tarumizu's farmed yellowtail and amberjack.
- [Michi-no-Eki Uchiko Fresh Park Karari](https://travel.japanvoyage.jp/travel_destinations/michi-no-eki-uchiko-fresh-park-karari): Ehime, Michi no eki. A farm market on Route 379 that only sells produce grown in Uchiko, with each grower's name on the label. The bakery, smokehouse and ice cream counter make it a good lunch stop before or after the old merchant streets.
- [Mount Misen](https://travel.japanvoyage.jp/travel_destinations/mount-misen): Hiroshima, Mountain. The 535-metre peak in the middle of Miyajima, rising behind Itsukushima Shrine. The forest centred on Misen, with its primeval woods that are a National Natural Monument, is part of the inscribed World Heritage area of Itsukushima Shinto Shrine. You can go most of the way up by ropeway and walk about 30 minutes to the top, or climb one of three trails in 1.5 to 2.5 hours. The summit has granite boulders, an observatory and Kobo Daishi's temple halls.
- [Mount Sanjogatake](https://travel.japanvoyage.jp/travel_destinations/mount-sanjogatake): Nara, Mountain. The 1,719 m main peak of the northern Omine range, where Shugendo traces its beginning, with the temple Ominesan-ji on the summit. The temple doors open only from 3 May to 23 September. Women are not allowed on the mountain: a women's boundary gate stands at the Seijo Ohashi trailhead above Dorogawa Onsen. The climb from there takes about three hours each way.
- [Sagamiko MORI MORI](https://travel.japanvoyage.jp/travel_destinations/sagamiko-mori-mori): Kanagawa, Amusement park. A hilltop forest park above Lake Sagami, run by Fujikyu and renamed from Pleasure Forest in July 2024. Days are about rides and big climbing attractions; from November to May the Illumillion light show keeps it open until 21:00.
- [Shima Onsen](https://travel.japanvoyage.jp/travel_destinations/shima-onsen): Gunma, Onsen. A narrow hot spring valley along the Shima River in northwest Gunma with 42 sources, named in 1954 as one of Japan's first three national health spa resorts. Sekizenkan's 1691 main building is often linked with Spirited Away, and the lake upstream, Okushima-ko, turns a bright "Shima blue" in spring.
- [Shin-Yakushi-ji](https://travel.japanvoyage.jp/travel_destinations/shin-yakushi-ji): Nara, Temple. A small temple in the Takabatake district, south of Kasuga Taisha, with one Nara-period hall and one reason to come: twelve nearly life-size clay generals from the 8th century, standing in a ring around a seated healing Buddha. It is a 10 to 15 minute uphill walk from the nearest bus stop.
