A mountain stop on Route 153 in Inabu, the far northeast corner of Toyota city. People queue for the bread baked with local Mine Asahi rice flour, and the Donguri-no-Yu hot spring next door turns a snack break into an afternoon.
- [Michi-no-Eki Hachioji Takiyama](https://travel.japanvoyage.jp/travel_destinations/michi-no-eki-hachioji-takiyama): Tokyo, Michi no eki. Opened in 2007 as the first michi-no-eki in Tokyo, about 500 m north of Hachioji IC on the Chuo Expressway. Come for Hachioji-grown vegetables, gelato made with milk from a local dairy and a bowl of Hachioji ramen.
- [Michi-no-Eki Heisei](https://travel.japanvoyage.jp/travel_destinations/michi-no-eki-heisei): Gifu, Michi no eki. A small station in the hills of Seki, in a district written with the same characters as the Heisei era. Locals read it Henari. Come for log-grown shiitake, a shiitake katsudon and a foot bath.
- [Michi-no-Eki Kadena](https://travel.japanvoyage.jp/travel_destinations/michi-no-eki-kadena): Okinawa, Michi no eki. A four-story roadside station beside the fence of Kadena Air Base, the largest US Air Force base in the Far East. The free rooftop deck looks straight over the runway, and a floor below explains what living next to it means for the town.
- [Michi-no-Eki Kamiamakusa Sunpearl](https://travel.japanvoyage.jp/travel_destinations/michi-no-eki-kamiamakusa-sunpearl): Kumamoto, Michi no eki. Local fish goes into the restaurant's seafood bowls, and the shop sells the islands' seafood and produce.
- [Michi-no-Eki Kamogawa Ocean Park](https://travel.japanvoyage.jp/travel_destinations/michi-no-eki-kamogawa-ocean-park): Chiba, Michi no eki. Local fish on the menu, a terrace over the Pacific, a free foot bath and rock pools for children.
- [Michi-no-Eki Kasaoka Bay Farm](https://travel.japanvoyage.jp/travel_destinations/michi-no-eki-kasaoka-bay-farm): Okayama, Michi no eki. A farm market on the flat reclaimed land of Kasaoka Bay, next to fields planted for each season: rapeseed blossom in spring, poppies in May, sunflowers in summer and cosmos in autumn. Lunch is a buffet of local produce.
- [Michi-no-Eki Kirara Taki](https://travel.japanvoyage.jp/travel_destinations/michi-no-eki-kirara-taki): Shimane, Michi no eki. A Nordic-looking station on a terrace above the Sea of Japan, on Route 9 west of Izumo. Taki figs are the local crop, sold fresh in season and turned into soft serve, and Kirara Beach below is listed among Japan's top 100 sunset spots.
- [Michi-no-Eki Narusawa](https://travel.japanvoyage.jp/travel_destinations/michi-no-eki-narusawa): Yamanashi, Michi no eki. On Route 139 at the northern foot of Mount Fuji, about ten minutes from Kawaguchiko IC. The farm shop sells cabbage, corn and other vegetables grown at around 1,000 m, and the mountain fills the sky behind the buildings.
- [Michi-no-Eki Noto Chirihama](https://travel.japanvoyage.jp/travel_destinations/michi-no-eki-noto-chirihama): Ishikawa, Michi no eki. A roadside station by Chirihama IC, where cars turn off for the Chirihama Nagisa Driveway along the sand. Stock up on Noto vegetables and seafood, eat lunch, and check whether the beach road is open before you drive down to it.
- [Michi-no-Eki Tomiura Biwa Club](https://travel.japanvoyage.jp/travel_destinations/michi-no-eki-tomiura-biwa-club): Chiba, Michi no eki. Chiba’s first roadside station, on Route 127 near Tomiura IC, built around the Boso loquat. Order the loquat soft serve, browse the jams and jellies, and come in May or June if you want to pick the fruit yourself.
- [Miyake-jima](https://travel.japanvoyage.jp/travel_destinations/miyake-jima): Tokyo, Island. A round volcanic island about 180 km off Honshu whose 2000 eruption and the gas that followed emptied it for about four and a half years. Lava from 1983 still covers the old Ako school, the forest around Tairoike is home ground for the Izu thrush, and the summit is open only on guided tours.
- [Mount Chokai](https://travel.japanvoyage.jp/travel_destinations/mount-chokai): Yamagata, Mountain. A 2,236 m active volcano on the Akita and Yamagata border, about 16 km from the Sea of Japan and called Dewa Fuji for its shape. Most climbers start at Hokodate, the fifth station at 1,150 m on the toll-free Chokai Blue Line, and reach the summit in about 4 hours 40 minutes on a route where snowfields last into July.
- [Museum of Contemporary Art Tokyo](https://travel.japanvoyage.jp/travel_destinations/museum-of-contemporary-art-tokyo): Tokyo, Museum. Tokyo's public museum of contemporary art, opened in 1995 on the north edge of Kiba Park, with about 6,100 works centred on postwar Japanese art. The rotating collection show costs about 500 yen; special exhibitions are priced separately and include it.
- [Oshima (Munakata)](https://travel.japanvoyage.jp/travel_destinations/oshima-munakata): Fukuoka, Island. An island of about 700 people, 15 to 25 minutes by ferry from Konominato in Munakata, with two of the component parts of the Okinoshima World Heritage Site: Nakatsu-miya, the middle of Munakata Taisha's three shrines, five minutes' walk from the port, and the Okitsu-miya Yohaisho on the north shore, built to worship Okinoshima from afar. Okinoshima itself is closed to the public, and on a clear day this is as close as you can get to seeing it.
