A roadside station and plum-culture hall in Minabe, Japan's top plum-growing town and home of the prized Nanko-ume, with exhibits, a large plum-products shop, and an ume (plum) soft serve.
- [Shirahama Onsen](https://travel.japanvoyage.jp/travel_destinations/shirahama-onsen): Wakayama, Onsen. The hot spring side of Shirahama, apart from the beach. Its best-known bath is Sakinoyu, open-air rock pools on the Yuzaki shore where the lowest pool sits at the level of the sea and waves come in over the edge. It costs 500 yen, and you cannot use soap because the water runs straight into the ocean.
- [Negoro-ji](https://travel.japanvoyage.jp/travel_destinations/negoro-ji): Wakayama, Temple. Head temple of the Shingi Shingon school in the hills of Iwade, northern Wakayama. Its Daito, finished in 1547 and spared when Toyotomi Hideyoshi burned the temple in 1585, is Japan's largest wooden great pagoda and a National Treasure you can step inside. Entry is 500 yen, and it is about 30 minutes by car from Kansai Airport.
- [Kushimoto Turkish Memorial Museum](https://travel.japanvoyage.jp/travel_destinations/kushimoto-turkish-memorial-museum): Wakayama, Museum. A small museum on the eastern cliffs of Kii-Oshima about the Ottoman frigate Ertugrul, wrecked on the reef below in September 1890 with 587 dead; the islanders saved 69. The memorial, a statue of Ataturk and the Kashinozaki lighthouse are a short walk away. Entry is 500 yen.
- [Jison-in](https://travel.japanvoyage.jp/travel_destinations/jison-in): Wakayama, Temple. A small Shingon temple by the Kinokawa river where, by tradition, Kukai's mother lived out her life because women were barred from Koyasan. Women still leave breast-shaped ema here. The 180th stone of the Koyasan Choishi-michi stands on the steps up to Niu Kanshofu Shrine just above it, and the temple is one of the component parts of the Kii Mountain Range World Heritage property. Free; 20 minutes on foot from Kudoyama Station.
- [Koyasan Choishi-michi](https://travel.japanvoyage.jp/travel_destinations/koyasan-choishi-michi): Wakayama, Trail. The old main pilgrim road up Koyasan, about 22 km from Jison-in in Kudoyama to the Konpon Daito, with a stone marker every 109 metres. Most of the markers were set up between 1265 and 1285. The path is part of the Kii Mountain Range World Heritage property. Allow six to seven hours; mostly unpaved forest trail.
- [Michi-no-Eki Susami](https://travel.japanvoyage.jp/travel_destinations/michi-no-eki-susami): Wakayama, Michi no eki. Right off the Susami-minami exit of the Kisei Expressway, this Route 42 station has a seafood restaurant facing the Pacific and a small town aquarium devoted to shrimp and crabs.
- [Fudarakusan-ji](https://travel.japanvoyage.jp/travel_destinations/fudarakusan-ji): Wakayama, Temple. A small Tendai temple by Nachi beach, a branch of Seiganto-ji, where monks once set out in small boats for Fudaraku, the paradise of Kannon believed to lie across the southern sea, and did not come back. A reconstruction of one of the boats stands in the grounds. It is one of the component parts of the Kii Mountain Range World Heritage property. Free, 3 minutes from JR Nachi Station.
- [Niutsuhime Shrine](https://travel.japanvoyage.jp/travel_destinations/niutsuhime-shrine): Wakayama, Shrine. The main shrine of old Kii Province, in the quiet Amano basin below Koyasan. By the shrine's tradition its goddess gave the mountain to Kukai, and pilgrims were expected to pray here before going up. It is one of the component parts of the Kii Mountain Range World Heritage property. Entry is free; buses from Kaseda Station run five times a day.
- [Ichimaiiwa Rock](https://travel.japanvoyage.jp/travel_destinations/ichimaiiwa-rock): Wakayama, Landmark. One unbroken face of volcanic rock, about 100 meters high and 500 meters wide, rising straight out of the Koza River in the hills behind Kushimoto. It is a national natural monument. The only public transport is a 100-yen town bus that runs four times a day, so most people drive.
